Over the next few weeks, I’ll be adding a series of posts on how you can improve your climbing technique.
This is a brilliant video on the deadpoint technique. To a beginner, I recommend simply keeping your arms extended whenever you can. You wouldn’t carry a shopping bag with bent arms, so don’t hold your body weight that way either, of course when you can.
The deadpoint technique is an extension of this idea, moving controlled but quickly to the next hold and resting again when you can.

When you apply this to your climbing, your muscles get a chance to lengthen and relax and you will be able to climb for longer and harder climbs.
